The problem
Having GA4 installed is not the same as having useful tracking
A tracking code can tell you that people visited your website. It does not automatically tell you whether those visitors submitted a form, clicked an important CTA, booked a call, or completed another action that matters to your business.
No data at all
GA4 has never been installed, or the current implementation is not collecting data correctly.
Data without context
You can see visits and pages, but the account is barely configured and gives you little useful context about the audience or search traffic.
No meaningful action tracking
You are running campaigns or making marketing decisions, but important events and key events are not being measured.
Track only what you actually need
The right setup depends on what you want Analytics to do. A small brochure site does not need the same implementation as a lead-generation site or a campaign landing page.
- Website visit
- Important action
- Event
- Key event / campaign conversion
Choose the right setup
Three levels of Google Analytics setup
You do not need to pay for a complex implementation if all you need is basic data collection. Start with the level that matches how you actually use your website and your marketing.
Essential
Level 1
GA4 Installation Only
For websites that simply need Google Analytics installed and collecting basic traffic data.
- Create or connect a GA4 property and web data stream
- Add the GA4 tracking code to the website
- Verify that GA4 is receiving data
- No custom events or key events
- No extra configuration beyond what is needed for basic data collection
Included at no additional cost with new websites I build.
Best when you want the site collecting data now and may configure more advanced tracking later.
Standard
Level 2
GA4 with Essentials Setup
For businesses that want a more useful Analytics account, not just a tracking code on the site.
- Everything included in GA4 Installation Only
- Basic GA4 property and account configuration
- Configure demographic reporting such as age and gender where available and appropriate
- Connect Google Search Console to GA4
- Review basic data collection settings
- Check that the main Analytics setup is working as expected
Best for businesses that want useful baseline reporting before moving into campaign or conversion tracking.
For ads & campaigns
Level 3
GA4 for Conversion Tracking
For sites where marketing performance depends on knowing whether visitors complete specific actions.
- Everything included in GA4 with Essentials Setup
- Define the important actions you want to measure
- Configure relevant GA4 events
- Mark agreed events as key events where appropriate
- Track form submissions, CTA clicks, calls, signups, bookings, downloads, purchases or other agreed actions
- Test the implementation and confirm that agreed events are firing
Scope depends on the number and complexity of events. Ecommerce, cross-domain and advanced campaign tracking may require a custom scope.
What I do
A setup matched to how you use your website
The work can be as simple as installing GA4 correctly, or it can include the events and key events needed to understand whether your marketing is producing useful actions.
01
Install & verify
Connect Google Analytics 4 to the website and confirm that data is reaching the correct property.
02
Configure the essentials
Where included in the selected level, configure the key account settings, demographic reporting and Search Console connection.
03
Track meaningful actions
For conversion-focused setups, define and implement the events and key events that reflect real business goals.
What I need from you
Usually, just access and your goals
- WordPress access
Administrator access, or another account with enough permissions to implement and test the tracking. - Google Analytics access
If you already have a GA4 property, I will need appropriate access. If not, a new property can be created. - Google Search Console access
Required if you want the Search Console connection included in the Essentials or Conversion setup. - Your important actions
For conversion tracking, tell me what matters: enquiries, calls, bookings, purchases, signups, downloads or another action.
What you get
A clearer, more useful Analytics setup
- Working GA4 data collection
Your site is connected to the correct GA4 property and checked to confirm data is being received. - Configuration that matches your selected level
No unnecessary complexity. The account is configured only to the scope you actually need. - Events and key events where included
For conversion-focused setups, the agreed user actions are implemented and tested. - A better foundation for marketing decisions
Useful tracking makes it easier to evaluate SEO, campaigns, landing pages and other marketing activity later.
Which level is right for you?
Choose based on what you need to know
I just want Analytics installed
Choose GA4 Installation Only. Your site will start collecting basic GA4 data without extra configuration.
I want a properly configured baseline
Choose GA4 with Essentials Setup for the core account settings, demographic reporting where available, and Search Console connection.
I run ads or campaigns
Choose GA4 for Conversion Tracking when you need to know whether traffic is generating enquiries, signups, bookings, purchases or other meaningful actions.
FAQ
Google Analytics setup questions
What is included when you build my website?
Basic GA4 installation is included at no additional cost with new websites I build. That means creating or connecting the GA4 setup, adding the tracking code, and confirming that data collection is working. Additional account configuration, Search Console linking, and custom events or key events are separate unless they are specifically included in the project scope.
Do I need conversion tracking if I am not running ads?
Not necessarily. Conversion-focused tracking is useful whenever you need to measure specific business actions, but a simpler setup may be enough for a small site that mainly needs basic traffic reporting.
What is the difference between an event and a key event?
An event records a user interaction or occurrence in GA4. A key event is an event that you identify as especially important to the business, such as a lead submission, signup, booking or purchase.
Can you work with an existing GA4 account?
Yes. If GA4 is already installed, I can work with the existing property, review the current implementation and add or correct the agreed setup instead of creating a new account unnecessarily.
Can you track forms, calls and button clicks?
In most cases, yes. These are common examples of events that can be configured as part of the Conversion Tracking level. The exact implementation depends on the website and the tool used for the action.
Do demographic reports always show age and gender?
No. Demographic data availability depends on Google’s data, user consent, privacy settings, traffic volume and other factors. The Essentials setup can configure the relevant reporting options where appropriate, but it cannot guarantee that every demographic dimension will always be populated.
